Farm Project

Farm Project: The farm project began as an eco-demonstration farm. The concept of the eco-demo farm( as it has come to be called) is to provide a space of experimentin, with different soil conditions and minimal externa inputs, different crops and vegetables until th gro e is success of improved yield or quality, then it can be ght to local farmers.
Local farmers also have the opportunity to make inputs and the farm team also learns from them. The eco-demo farm is to be the beginning of a bigger farm project which will contribute to sustainability of the sisters and their mission in Kulmasa. Slowly, the scale up of the eco-demo farm has began with some drip irrigation installed on about four acres of land while a shade house has also been installed.

The farm is watered by a high yielding solar-powered well which enables all year round farming. Until now, mostly vegetables like green peppers, hot peppers, cabbage, carrots, okro, tomatoes and garden eggs have been cultivated. Maize has also been cultivated every year with legumes like groundnuts and beans which are used in preparation of the weanimix food supplement. Water melons have also been cultivated in recent times and an acre each of coconut, oranges, cashew and mango have been cultivated.
